Alliance Council Member
Why did you want to be a Council Member?
The experiment in Democracy in Sports, and empowering fans in the tradition of Barcelona/Real Madrid seems high risk, but the long term payoff could be huge. How well could a sports club represent our unique community? I can't think of a better way to connect with a community than by giving that community a sense of power, even if that power is small. But we got to name our club, our band, our fan group.
What are your goals as a Council Member?
I campaigned on the ideals of Quality, Transparency and Community. Those might seem nebulous, but they can express themselves in things like gameday experience in food and beverage, or club environmental policy and mostly exactly what the Council is can and can not do as well as who is on it and how they can be contacted.
When did you know that the Sounders would be a 'big deal?'
It took a while. It could have been just a fad, or something new. But when local media accepted it as a major sport, when the season tickets had to be capped, when the TV ratings exploded I knew this wasn't just an MLS club, but rapidly part of the Seattle identity.
