Why did you want to be a Council Member?

I grew up in Enumclaw playing two sports- baseball and soccer. I proudly wore the see-it-from-space orange of the "Blazers", in the Cascade Foothills Soccer Club. I was a skinny goalie on a good team so my biggest challenge was avoiding frostbite as I stood, shivering in the rain. Somehow, despite this initiation, I grew to love soccer. The Beautiful Game can put a hold on you like no other. I'm proud to be a card-carrying member of the Emerald City Supporters, who are my friends and brethren. Serving on the Council to work on behalf of the ECS is a privlege and my honor. I love soccer and I wanted to be on the Council to represent the ECS, the fans, and to support and build the game of soccer in Seattle. Working on the Council offers me the opportunity to serve my fellow fans.

What are your goals as a Council Member?

My goals as a Council member are first and foremost to serve as a voice for the ECS and for the supporters and fans of the Sounders. All too often in today's sports world, the voice of the fan is ignored, but the fans should always be on the minds of those involved in our team and league. Players, owners, managers, stadiums, even leagues come and go, but the fans are always there- and if we do not take the best interests of the fans into account, the sport suffers. Working on the Council fits in with the things I do to help build the support for our team- helping to organize our away travel for ECS (non-ECS fans are welcome to join us- see www.WeAreECS.com/travel for more info!), attending as many games as possible, lending and blending my voice with that of the fellow supporters in the Brougham End to encourage and uplift our team to victory.

When did you know that the Sounders would be a 'big deal?'

When Seattle was granted an MLS franchise and it became evident that they would be properly supported and marketed by ownership.. Seattle has historically been a very enthusiastic city for soccer and we just needed to get the top level of the game here with a good ownership group. The owners have been pretty good thus far about realizing that the success of the club depends on working in partnership with the fans. A more concrete answer would be that during the March to the Match for the first game, I looked over and found myself walking alongside Joe Roth- who at that point was just another fan, heading to the stadium and excited about seeing our team. When your majority owner is still "in touch" enough with regular folks to join that kind of thing, you're going to be just fine. Sure enough, in Houston, Adrian, Joe, and Drew were hanging with us at the tailgate prior to what turned out to be our last game of the year in the playoffs.
