Alliance Council Member
Why did you want to be a Council Member?
I was impressed that Sounders FC created a member association to involve fans in its decisions and listen to our ideas. I felt this would be a unique opportunity to share my passion for the beautiful game, to contribute to the success of the Sounders, to help define ‘democracy in sports’ and to represent other fans.
What are your goals as a Council Member?
Be a voice for Sounders fans - encourage their participation and relay their interests to the club. Raise fan awareness about the Alliance, how the council and club are working together, and what is being accomplished. Collaborate with the council to enhance match day atmosphere – whether it’s filling the stadium with songs and chants, or adding new microbrews. Encourage a positive and exciting experience for fans and visitors, especially with the return of our rivals Portland and Vancouver in 2011. Help maintain Seattle’s status as having the best fans and increase the number of fans supporting the Sounders and other soccer/football events (i.e., World Cup bid, international games) in Seattle.
When did you know that the Sounders would be a 'big deal?'
The early hints: season ticket members’ choosing the Sounders name even though it wasn’t on the ballot; signing the first 4 players (Le Toux, Nyassi, Keller, Ljungberg,) and Sigi; the ‘scarfing’ of Seattle. But the inaugural game exceeded all my expectations, with an energized stadium that reminded me of the best games I’d seen in Europe.
Hometown: Seattle
Favorite club (outside of Seattle): Manchester United, FC Barcelona
Favorite player (outside of Seattle): Giggs, Messi, Puyol
Favorite Sounder player: Osvaldo Alonso
