A New Chapter in the Legacy of Sports in Seattle Begins

Qwest Field to become CenturyLink Field

SEATTLE - After 35 years of thrilling victories and history-making moments, the Seattle Seahawks, Sounders FC and CenturyLink are proud to enter a new era of professional sports; Qwest Field is becoming CenturyLink Field. The partnership exemplifies the company's commitment to Seattle since acquiring Qwest on April 1.

It's about building on a partnership that began between Qwest, the teams that have played on the field and the fans who have supported them for decades. From donating funds to Page Ahead for every '08 Matt Hasselbeck playoff touchdown pass, to serving as presenting sponsor of the Spirit of 12 Partners Program to the CenturyLink Leadership Challenge, CenturyLink will continue to focus on charitable and volunteer efforts in the Seattle area. Those efforts will focus on education and youth programs; technology-focused initiatives; and locally-driven efforts that strengthen communities and make them better places to live.

The first professional game and sporting event at the old Kingdome was the Sounders vs. Cosmos  game on April 25, 1976. The Kingdome was imploded in March of 2000, resulting in a new stadium being built. In 2004, Qwest and the Seahawks announced Qwest Field as their new home field. In 2009, Qwest Field became home base for the Seattle Sounders FC MLS team. CenturyLink is proud to build on the tradition of the past 35 years and to play a part in creating future memories for sports fans, families and friends, through the announcement of the new sponsorship.
