Why did you want to be a Council Member?
I’ve gone to 23 away matches (in which the Sounders are 11-6-6, +11 GD), I've spent countless hours reading and commenting on Sounder at Heart, attending (almost) every home match and a handful of reserve/academy matches, I've been to the America SCORES auction (yes, I am the proud owner of a pair of signed Freddie Ljungberg cleats), and my favorite memory was probably the Colorado v Washington Special Olympics match held after the 2012 Rapids/Sounders tie-up in Denver. But with all of that, I still wanted something more, something where I can help shape the future of our club and help be a part of "Democracy in Sports".
What are your goals as a Council Member?
There are three major topics that I have a passion for and wanted to ensure received the appropriate discussion:
- Ensuring a positive away fan experience (specifically non-Cascadia matches, both for SG- and non-SG associated fans)
- Providing feedback on the CRM program that the Front Office has begun to roll out
- Better engagement of young fans and Sounders fans outside the Puget Sound area
When did you know that the Sounders would be a ‘big deal?
When the team was announced I thought back to the July 2003 match between Manchester United and Celtic in Seahawks Stadium and the roar that rose up after Ruud van Nistelrooy’s goal. I knew then soccer was big in Seattle and it was only a matter of time until we’d have a top-flight team of our own to cheer.
