The Sounders FC asks their fans to give their Full 90 at every match.

If ever there was an indication that they ask the same of themselves, the all-time series against Kansas City is surely Exhibit A.

Five times in their first three seasons, the Sounders FC has earned dramatic wins over Kansas City with three stoppage-time winners and two more game-winners coming in the final 15 minutes of matches to clinch playoff berths.

They hope to continue that winning trend Wednesday night in their only meeting of the season with their Eastern Conference foe when they face Sporting Kansas City at 7pm at CenturyLink Field.

Everyone will remember the last-minute winners from the last two seasons at CenturyLink Field, with Mike Fucito scoring a rocket off a Brad Evans throw-in in 2010 and Jeff Parke knocking home a Tyson Wahl corner kick in 2011.

But the late-game drama isn’t limited to just those two victories.

After suffering their first defeat as an MLS franchise at the hands of the then-Wizards in 2009, the Sounders have not lost to the Kansas City franchise. In the road-tilt in 2009, they fell behind 2-1 early in the second half, but then powered back with goals by Roger Levesque in the 69th minute and Nate Jaqua in the 76th minute to clinch a spot in the playoffs.

After Fucito’s fist-pumping winner early in the season in 2010, Sanna Nyassi put one away in the 66th minute and Alvaro Fernandez scored in the 78th minute then held off a late run by the Wizards to again clinch a playoff berth at Community America Ballpark.

Parke scored his heart-stopping header in their early-season meeting in Seattle, then in Kansas City the newly-branded Sporting KC were riding high an eight-game unbeaten streak to open their new Livestrong Sporting Park.

At least until the Sounders came to town.

Kansas City held a 1-0 lead going into the final moments of the game and looked like they would be extending that streak. Then Mauro Rosales took over. He scored all on his own in the 90th minute, then two minutes into stoppage time he rolled the ball across the top of the box where Fucito got a foot to it, then Lamar Neagle knocked it in for the crushing game-winner.

While they would prefer not to leave it so late on Wednesday, the Sounders have certainly shown that when it comes to Kansas City, it will take a Full 90.
