FRISCO, Texas – Entering Saturday afternoon’s match against FC Dallas, Sounders FC had been hurt by only one player on the Dallas roster in two previous matches at CenturyLink Field.
At Toyota Stadium, Michel equaled his one goal and one assist in a May match at CenturyLink Field, but Seattle wasn’t bolstered by a four-goal explosion this time around and fell 2-0 for its fourth straight defeat.
Sounders FC was even with Dallas throughout the match, but two second-half goals put the Sounders away and they weren’t able to bounce back.
Seattle had the better of the first half possession, but Dallas had a pair of late opportunities that tested goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann.
Andrew Jacobson ripped a shot from the left side in the 43rd minute that Hahnemann knocked down for the save. Moments later, Fabian Castillo got into the box and pulled Hahnemann off his line, but the defense forced him to push his shot wide of the far post and the teams went into halftime scoreless.
In the 52nd minute, DeAndre Yedlin sent a long cross in from the right side that cleared the pack in front of the goal and found Brad Evans for a left-footed volley at the far post that missed high.
One minute later, Lamar Neagle was on the end of a ball from the right side from Brad Evans. Clint Dempsey got his head to it, but could only deflect it to Neagle, whose overhead bicycle attempt missed just over the crossbar.
Dallas took the lead in the 65th minute when Michel sent a free kick into the box and Matt Hedges headed it inside the far post for his third goal of the season, putting Dallas up 1-0.
Seattle pressed quickly the other direction and Dempsey led Brad Evans into the box, but his effort missed just outside the right post.
Another chance came in the 78th minute when Neagle crossed the ball for David Estrada at the far post. Estrada sent a header back across the face of the goal, but Hedges cleared it off the line to keep Seattle off the board.
Those missed chances would prove costly as Michel added a goal in the 87th minute on a misplayed clearance that fell to his feet all alone with an open net. He touched it in for the score, putting Dallas up 2-0.
Seattle’s fourth straight defeat dropped it to 15-12-6 and still fourth in the Western Confernce.
