Maestro Rosales

Mauro Rosales assisted on all three Fredy Montero goals, raising his season total to 13, tying the team record he set in 2011.

Mauro Rosales continued to pull the strings for Seattle’s attack in the team’s 6-2 win over Chivas USA on Saturday night, unlocking the league’s sixth-best defense with creative combinations and tricky through balls.

Rosales assisted on all three Fredy Montero goals, raising his season total to 13, tying the team record he set in 2011. Seattle’s captain is in a good run of form recently, tallying 11 assists in his past 11 league outings. He currently leads MLS in assists with 13, two more than David Beckham, Dwayne De Rosario and Graham Zusi.

“We are all trying to do our best,” said Rosales. “We want to keep this mentality and the whole team has to be in a high mentality.”

The artistic Argentine midfielder hit the 13 assist mark in just 21 games this season. At this point in his record-setting 2011 season, Rosales had totaled seven assists. Moreover, an astounding 25 of his 26 assists have come in wins (21) or draws (4), and he also leads MLS with five game-winning assists this season.

“It’s something I’m proud of,” said Rosales. “I work hard for it and I want to keep going in the same way.”

Rosales has combined well with Seattle’s new-look attack. For the first time, Rosales, Montero, Eddie Johnson and Christian Tiffert started the match on Saturday at Chivas. In the 105 minutes that the quartet has played together in MLS, the team has scored seven goals for an average of six goals per 90 minutes. Overall, the team has gone 3-1-0 when those four players see time together with a plus-nine goal differential.

Rosales and the red-hot Sounders FC attack will look to continue to score goals and win games over the final stretch of the season. Next up in MLS play is a Western Conference matchup at FC Dallas next Sunday.

“This is the way that we want to finish the competition,” said Rosales. “We are tied in second place. Now we want to go for the first one.”
