Academy Kicks off USSDA Season in LA

The 2012-13 Sounders FC Academy US Soccer Development Academy season is under way.

Sounders FC Academy kicked off its 2012-13 US Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) season this past weekend when they traveled down to Los Angeles for matches with LA Galaxy and Chivas USA academies.

Academy returns to USSDA action in two weeks for their home opener when they host Portland Timbers Academy on Saturday, September 22. The U18’s will kick off at 1:00 p.m. and the U16’s at 3:30 at Starfire Sports Complex. 

Sounders FC U18 (USSDA)

Sounders FC at LA Galaxy (September 8, 2012) – D, 3-3
Jordan Morris put the Rave Green on the board in the first minute, then assisted Ike Crook’s score to make it 2-2 in the 26th minute. Down 3-2 in the 74th minute, Isidro Prado-Huerta equalized in dramatic fashion when he chipped the keeper to bring the game level. Goalkeeper Connor Adkisson made big saves all game, most notably stopping a penalty kick in the final 10 minutes to preserve the road point.

Sounders FC at Chivas USA (September 9, 2012) – L, 2-4
Ike Crook finished a cross from Jordan Morris in the first half and Kenny Sweet scored a late, but it wasn’t enough to top a strong four-goal performance from the Goats.

Sounders FC U16 (USSDA)

Sounders FC at LA Galaxy (September 8, 2012) – D, 1-1
Denis Kalamar netted a penalty kick in the 10th minute for the U16’s as they drew 1-1 with the Galaxy.

Sounders FC at Chivas USA (September 9, 2012) – D, 2-2
After surrendering an early goal, Denis Kalamar pulled the game level in the 10th minute when he converted a penalty in his second straight game after being fouled in the box. Marcus Machado put the Rave Green up 2-1 when he scored at the near post on a ball from Harrison Kurtz. Chivas equalized on a second half corner kick to force the draw.

Sounders FC vs. Calgary Foothills (September 1, 2012) – W, 5-1
