Stefan Frei passes Kasey Keller as Seattle Sounders' all-time MLS saves leader

The Seattle Sounders have a new all-time saves leader.


Goalkeeper Stefan Frei passed Kasey Keller for the top spot in Sunday’s 3-1 win over the Portland Timbers, recording five saves and pushing his career Seattle total to 273. Keller, who played in Seattle from 2009-11, finished with 270.


Frei is also on pace to surpass Keller in most career games played and started for Seattle later this season. Frei currently sits at 88, five behind Keller’s 93, and could potentially tie the mark on Sept. 25 at the LA Galaxy and break it on Sept. 28 home vs. the Chicago Fire.


Frei also owns the record for most saves in a season (111), which he set in 2015.
