The Sounders FC U18 and U16 teams went to California and came back unbeaten in four matches, picking up 10 points to keep both teams atop the USSDA West standings.

It was another successful weekend for the Sounders FC U18 and U16 teams, this time on a road trip to California that saw them take on Cosmos West on Saturday and Real So Cal on Sunday.

The two teams combined for 11 goals to finish the weekend with a 3-0-1 record.

The U18 team got off to a hot start against Real So Cal, getting goals from four different players and assists from five more in a dominant 5-0 victory.

The Sounders took control of the match from the opening whistle and Darwin Jones scored on a great ball from Travis Strawn to put them up 1-0.

Troy Peterson converted an Aaron Kovar corner kick for the 2-0 lead, then Jamael Cox assisted a Drew White goal for the 3-0 advantage.

Jones would add another on the assist from Sean Okoli and Chase Hanson notched the fifth goal of the morning for Seattle, connecting on a Jeremy Wentzel assist for the 5-0 victory.

On Sunday, the match was much more tightly contested and remained scoreless through the first 79 minutes in rainy Pasadena.

Cox continued his solid play, shifting to the central midfield and nearly converted on two free kicks.  Peterson nearly gave Seattle the lead on a corner kick from Kovar, but found the post and the ball was cleared.  Evan Robicheau also got his first start in central defense and kept Cosmos West off the board through 90 minutes.

Jones tallied his third goal of the weekend, though, in the 80th minute to give the Sounders the late lead, however, the home team was not to be denied and they equalized in stoppage time to force the game into a 1-1 draw.

The U16 team had two hard-fought battles, beginning against Real So Cal.  Michael Gallagher had a strong presence in the Seattle defense and Keenan Townsend kept Real So Cal off the board while Ian Lange banged home a free kick deflection from Austin Sweeney and Jesse Klug scored after a great run from Odason Pelogi to give the Sounders the 2-0 victory.

In the final match of the weekend, Seattle fell behind 1-0 early, but bounced back with goals from Pelogi Sweeney and Miles Rodriguez to take the 3-1 victory and six points from the weekend.

Jordan Schweitzer had two assists and Pelogi added another in the win.

The U18 team improves to 10-2-4 and remain atop the USSDA Western Conference standings while the U16s are now 11-2-3 and strengthen their hold on the top spot.

The Sounders host California-based Arsenal FC and Real Salt Lake (Arizona) next weekend with the U18s playing at noon and the U16s at 2:30 on Saturday and Sunday.
