On Tuesday, the Sounders FC is scheduled to add four more players to their roster before they open training camp on Thursday. That is when MLS holds the four-round Supplemental Draft in a conference call as teams around the league prepare for the start of the 2012 season.
Seattle will hold two picks in the second round, then one pick in each of the final two rounds. They will not pick in the first round, though, as they traded that pick to the Chicago Fire in exchange for their slot in the allocation order, which Seattle used to acquire Sammy Ochoa. They acquired a second pick in the second round from FC Dallas in exchange for Chris Seitz, who was selected by the Sounders in the Re-Entry Draft in 2010.
They hold the 33rd, 34th, 53rd and 72nd picks in the 76-pick draft.
“There’s a few guys that are still out there that I think can come in and fill in some of the spots that we need for depth,” said Sounders FC technical director Chris Henderson. “We’re going to look for that gem who can come in and make the team and surprise us.”
Last year, the Sounders acquired goalkeeper Josh Ford in the Supplemental Draft.
After two rounds in the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday, there are still plenty of players on the board for the Supplemental Draft, but with the Sounders picking so late in the order, there is no telling what still could be available when they make their first selections.
