The Canadian Men's Olympic Team has called in forward Babayele Sodade for training camp in Sunrise, Florida from March 13 to March 20, 2012.
RENTON, WASH. – Seattle Sounders FC announced today that the Canadian Men’s Olympic Team has called in forward Babayele Sodade for training camp in Sunrise, Florida from March 13 to March 20, 2012.
Should Sodade be selected for the 20-man roster following the camp, he will join the Canadian Men’s Olympic Team as they compete in the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament.
The competition begins in Nashville with games on March 22, 24 and 26. The semifinal would be played on March 31 and the final is scheduled for April 2 in Kansas City. The two finalists qualify for the London Olympics.
Canada is in Group A with the United States, Cuba and El Salvador.
Sodade, 21, was called in to the Canadian Men’s Olympic Team camp in 2010 but has not made an international appearance.
With the training camp scheduled from March 13 to March 20, Sodade will miss Seattle’s away leg against Santos Laguna in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals on March 14 as well as the MLS season opener against Toronto FC on March 17.
Sodade was signed by Sounders FC on Thursday, March 1.
Sounders FC kicks off the competitive soccer season against Mexico’s Santos Laguna on Wednesday, March 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field.
