RENTON, WASH. – Seattle Sounders FC has acquired midfielder Adam Moffat from the Houston Dynamo in exchange for midfielder Servando Carrasco and a 2014 natural second-round SuperDraft pick, the club announced today.

Moffat, 27, has alrerady set career-highs with 26 appearances, 24 starts and three goals for Houston this season. The Scottish midfielder won the 2008 MLS Cup with Sigi Schmid’s Columbus Crew and played in the 2011 and 2012 MLS Cup final with Houston.

“I have known Adam since 2007, when I brought him to the Crew,” said Head Coach Sigi Schmid. “He was a member our MLS championship team in Columbus and brings a fantastic attitude, has experience running the midfield, and a great shot from distance. Although it is difficult to see Servando leave, I am excited to welcome Adam to our team.”

A seven-year MLS veteran, Moffat has made 110 appearances with 12 goals and six assists for Columbus, Portland and Houston. He first joined MLS in 2007 when Schmid signed him to the Crew as a discovery player. He made 44 appearances over four seasons with Columbus, scoring five goals with one assist.

Moffat then joined the Portland Timbers in 2011 and made four appearances before joining the Dynamo in a midseason trade. Moffat made 12 starts for Houston in his first season and was named the club’s 2011 Newcomer of the Year. Over the past two seasons, he has started 46 of Houston’s 61 regular-season matches. Moffat has started in the past two MLS Cup finals and recorded an assist in the 2012 final. Overall, Moffat has 10 appearances in the MLS Cup Playoffs with one goal and one assist.

“We want to thank Servando Carrasco for his dedication to Sounders FC the last two-plus seasons,” said Sporting Director Chris Henderson. “Days like today are bittersweet, as we lose a fantastic teammate and member of the Sounders family. That said, we are very excited to bring Adam to Seattle. He has been a part of three MLS Cup Final teams and brings tremendous experience to our club. At the age of 27, Adam is still in the prime of his career.”

Carrasco, 25, has made a career-high 19 appearances and 13 starts in 2013 for Seattle, and recorded his first MLS goal and assist. He was selected by Sounders FC with the 27th overall pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. Overall, Carrasco has made 40 appearances with 22 starts in three seasons with Seattle.

Sounders FC hosts Real Salt Lake on tonight. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field. The match will be nationally televised on NBC Sports Network.
