RENTON, Wash. – Seattle Sounders FC has re-signed goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann, the club announced today. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms were not disclosed.
“We are looking forward to having Marcus back in a Sounders FC uniform,” said Sounders FC Sporting Director Chris Henderson. “He will continue to add veteran leadership and has proven to be solid between the posts. Marcus has had a fantastic career for club and country and we are proud he will be staying with his hometown team.”
Hahnemann, 41, started four matches in the 2013 regular season, allowing four goals with a 2-2-0 record. Overall, he has made nine appearances (723 minutes) across all competitions since joining Sounders FC on September 14, 2012, allowing nine goals for a 1.12 goals against average.
Hahnemann spent 13 years in the English Premier League playing for Fulham FC, Reading FC, Wolverhampton and Everton FC, making over 300 appearances. He also has nine caps for the U.S. National Team and was a member of the 2006 and 2010 World Cup teams. He began his MLS career in 1997 with the Colorado Rapids where he played three seasons, posting a 39-25 record in 66 appearances before joining Fulham in 1999. Hahnemann then moved to Reading where he made over 250 appearances from 2002-2009, and also played for Wolverhampton from 2009-11 and Everton from 2011-12.
The Seattle native began his professional career with the A-League Sounders in 1994 after a prolific career for Seattle Pacific University, where he was a three-time All-American and helped SPU to the 1993 Division II National Championship. The six-foot-three goalkeeper was an All-Star in his rookie year and led the Sounders to the A-League title in 1996.
