MONTREAL – Sounders FC takes on the Montreal Impact on Sunday from Olympic Stadium and Seattle will play in a new formation after losing Clint Dempsey to suspension and Brad Evans to a calf injury.
Head Coach Sigi Schmid will deploy a 4-3-3 formation in front of goalkeeper Stefan Frei, built around a midfield trio of Osvaldo Alonso, Gonzalo Pineda and Andy Rose.
On defense, Seattle will start the same back four as the first two matches of the regular season, with DeAndre Yedlin on the right, Dylan Remick on the left and a center back pair of Chad Marshall and Djimi Traore, who will be the captain for Sounders FC.
In the midfield, Alonso and Pineda will act as the holding midfielders behind Rose, who is getting his first playing time of the season. Pineda and Rose are both starting for the first time.
The forward trio will be Obafemi Martins in the middle with Lamar Neagle and Kenny Cooper flanking him. This is Neagle’s first match against his former team, as he did not play in the season opener last year against the Impact.
On the bench will be Marcus Hahnemann, Jalil Anibaba, Leo Gonzalez, Micheal Azira, Marco Pappa, Sean Okoli and Cam Weaver.
Seattle will debut the new Pitch Black third kit in the match.
