Sounders FC's Obafemi Martins makes first appearance for Nigeria since 2013

Sounders FC forward Obafemi Martins made his first appearance for the Nigerian National Team in more than two years on Friday during the Super Eagles’ World Cup Qualifying match against Swaziland.

Martins came on in the 71st minute for Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel in the game in Lobamba, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Martins earned his 40th career cap with the appearance, his first since March 23, 2013 and his third since playing in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Nigeria will host Swaziland on Nov. 17 in the second game of the FIFA international break. Martins has scored 40 goals in 72 games since joining the Sounders in 2012.
