Get ready for round two! The updated bracket for MLS Goal of the Year was released on Monday and three Sounders are still in the running for the year's top honors. You won't have any problem recalling three of the best goals from the season, but you will have some tough decisions to make when it comes to one of the matchups.
First up is Clint Dempsey's goal on the opening day of the Sounders' 2015 campaign against the New England Revolution. His second of the match, Dempsey found the back of the net after combining with Marco Pappa and Obafemi Martins for a passing sequence which undid the Revs defense and secured the team's 3-0 victory in front of the home crowd at CenturyLink Field.
You'll have a difficult choice to make though, as Dempsey's goal is pitted against arguably the most impressive goal Martins picked up in the 2015 season. Just weeks after Dempsey's magnificent opening day goal against New England, Martins picked up a dazzler of his own. The goal came on the road against the Colorado Rapids and sent the Sounders ahead 3-1 in Commerce City. Martins' split two defenders with his spin and had no problem putting one past goalkeeper Clint Irwin.
The third and final Rave Green goal still in contention came via Marco Pappa against the Rapids on May 27. It was the first of the season for the Guatemalan winger, who scored three in his second season with the Sounders. Off his less-favored right foot, Pappa sent in a shot from the top of the penalty box to put the team ahead in the 15th minute of the match and ultimately secure the 1-0 win.
