Sounders FC midfielder Marco Pappa and midfielder/forward Nelson Valdez both saw international action with their teams in World Cup Qualifiers on Friday, but neither player walked away with a key win on the road to Russia 2018.

Pappa started and logged 90 minutes in Guatemala’s 2-1 loss to Trinidad & Tobago in Guatemala City. The hosts fell in a 2-0 hole before pulling a goal back in the 90th minute in the loss.

The appearance was the 48th cap for Pappa, who is expected to suit up again on Tuesday when Guatemala take on St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Kingstown.

Valdez, meanwhile, started and logged 58 minutes before he was subbed off in Paraguay’s 1-0 loss to Peru in Lima. Valdez now has 63 caps for Paraguay, and will be available again when Paraguay host Bolivia in Asunción on Tuesday.

In other Sounders international news, Obafemi Martins made his first appearance for Nigeria since 2013 in the Super Eagles' scoreless draw at Swaziland on Friday, and S2 youngster Oalex Anderson scored the lone goal for the visitors in St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ 6-1 loss to the United States on Friday in St. Louis.

Sounders Academy product Jordan Morris also earned his seventh career cap in the win, and former Sounders defender DeAndre Yedlin started and logged a full 90 minutes in his 28th career appearance.
