Stanford forward Jordan Morris and Seattle University forward David Olsen were both named first-team All-Americans by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America last week after stellar college seasons.
Morris and Olsen are both Sounders FC Academy products, and headlined a group of four players with Sounders FC Academy ties to be honored by the NSCAA. Seattle University defender Kyle Bjornethun was named to the NSCAA’s second team, and Washington goalkeeper Ryan Herman was named to the third team.
Morris, a junior from Mercer Island, was also named a finalist for the Hermann Trophy Award honoring the nation’s top college player, and led Stanford to its first NCAA title on Sunday. Morris scored two goals in a 4-0 romp over Clemson in the NCAA championship at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan.
Olsen, a sophomore forward from Auburn, Wash., led the nation with 16 goals in 2015. He was also a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann trophy and helped lead the RedHawks to an 18-4-1 record and a berth in the Sweet 16 for the first time in the program’s Division I history.
Bjornethun, a junior defender from Snohomish, Wash., was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Year and helped anchor a stout RedHawks defensive line that recorded 10 shutouts. Also a Sounders Academy alum, Bjornethun was named the NSCAA National Player of the Week in September after scoring both goals in a 2-1 win at No. 13 Oregon State and contributing to another victory against No. 10 Washington.
Herman, a senior from Fall City, Wash., posted the PAC 12’s top numbers in each goalkeeping category this year. He also posted an 88 percent save percentage (third in the nation) and recorded 10 shutouts (tied-sixth in nation). One of five Huskies to join the Sounders U23 team, Herman helped the U18 Academy side to the USSDA Northwest Division Championship in 2010-2011.
