Sounders Spotlight

Sounders Spotlight: The countdown is on to 2016

If all you want for Christmas is for Sounders FC to play again, you don’t have to wait long. The offseason – already considered to be one of the shortest in professional sports – will shrink even more ahead of the 2016 campaign. On February 23, the Rave Green return to action in the quarterfinals of the 2015-2016 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League against Mexican giant Club America.

As the calendar year winds down, here is some notable coverage surrounding the club:

  • Matt Pentz of The Seattle Times reported on Lionel Messi and Argentina playing one of three matches at CenturyLink Field in June for Copa America Centenario.
  • FOX Sports posted a story on Jordan Morris, the Sounders Academy product who won the College Cup with Stanford.
  • Sounder at Heart mentioned the club’s focus on biomechanical video capture technology.
  • Seattle P-I looked ahead to February with an early preview of the Sounders matchup with Club America.
  • Midfielder Marco Pappa was traded to the Colorado Rapids for allocation money.
  • The Washington Post ran a piece on Lamar Neagle, who was traded to D.C. United for allocation money.
  • MLSsoccer.com previewed Sounders FC’s offseason, in which the club looks to ‘intelligently retool the roster.’
  • Obafemi Martins won SoundersFC.com’s Goal of the Year for his impressive first touch against Colorado.
