Osvaldo Alonso

Seattle Sounders midfielder Osvaldo Alonso's goal not enough in loss at Real Salt Lake

After scoring his first regular season MLS goal in nearly four years, midfielder Osvaldo Alonso didn't have time to savor the moment Saturday as the Seattle Sounders fell 2-1 on the road to Real Salt Lake

"We have to look forward. We have to focus on the next game," said the veteran midfielder, who's goal opened Seattle's account for the 2016 season. "I thought we played good, but unfortunately we got out 2-1."

Seattle came out of the gates strong and maintained a majority of the possession throughout the first half and ultimately edged out RSL on the night, but hanging on to the ball didn't always translate offensively.

Alonso's midfield was hit early on, with Erik Friberg having to sub out in the 18th minute after picking up an apparent knee injury. Cristian Roldan jumped in early to replace Friberg, and Alonso felt confident in the midfield's work, despite the challenges.

"I think we're playing good. We keep the ball and we had great opportunities to score," Alonso said after the match. "Today, though, we allowed two goals and we lost the game. We walk away with the loss."

Alonso said there was no time to celebrate his first regular season goal since 2012 and instead, he wanted to shift his sights to the upcoming Cascadia clash against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at CenturyLink Field on Saturday, March 19.

"I'm happy to score my first goal of the season, but it's more important to me to get the three points," he said. "We have to keep going now and focus on the next game."
