Editor’s Note: SoundersFC.com is taking a look back through the history books to dig up some of the biggest and best moments in franchise history, both on and off the field.
On April 14,2012, defender Zach Scott tallied his first MLS goal in a match against the Colorado Rapids at CenturyLink Field. The goal - which came in the 63rd minute off a Sounders corner kick - is still the only regular season MLS goal Scott has scored in his career, but he remembers it well.
“I think it was Alex Caskey who swung in a good ball,” Scott recalled this week. “It was one of those things that we trained for, looking for that near post run on a corner and it just happened to work out perfectly.”
It was the decisive goal of the match, as the Sounders came away with a 1-0 victory, which kicked off a five game-winning streak. The Sounders ultimately finished the season 3rd in the Western conference with 56 points.
“The goal was nice, but it was more important that we came out with a win,” Scott said. “We always want to win our home games, and that was important for us because we were pressing that entire game to get a lead. It was good to come out with a win; that was the biggest thing.”
Scott is the longest-tenured Sounders player and has appeared in over 300 matches for the Rave Green across all leagues and competitions.
