SANDY, UTAH - Sounders FC 2 grinded out a scoreless draw at Real Monarchs SLC on Tuesday evening in the club's first road test of the season. The result gives S2 (1-3-2, 5 points) five points during its current three-match unbeaten streak as goalkeeper Tyler Miller picks up his second consecutive shutout. The Rave Green return home to Starfire Stadium on Sunday, May 1 for a fixture against Oklahoma City Energy FC (7:00 p.m. PT / live-streamed on SoundersFC.com.
Of note, Homegrown Player Jordan Schweitzer made his first professional start. The defensive midfielder made his debut on April 17 in a reserve role after being sidelined for the first four matches due to injury.
The first half featured few dangerous chances on each side. In the 33rd minute, Miller made an impressive stop from close range, and four minutes later Myron Samuel's shot attempt just missed.
In the 77th minute, S2 midfielder Mark O'Ojong hobbled off the pitch with an injury and was replaced by Lorenzo Ramos. In the 88th minute, the Monarchs took a corner-kick and had a good look on goal, but Miller used the entirety of his 6'4'' frame and plucked the ball in midair from his line.
Despite the Monarchs have a 12-5 shot advantage, each side recorded two attempts on goal. Seattle edged the home side on corner-kicks 4-3.
After the lone road contest, S2 returns to Starfire Stadium for a tilt against Oklahoma City Energy FC on Sunday, May 1 (7:00 p.m. PT / live-streamed on SoundersFC.com).
