SEATTLE – Jordan Morris joined some rare company in Major League Soccer and Seattle Sounders history on Saturday night with the latest goal of his celebrated rookie season.
The Sounders’ Homegrown Player scored a goal in his fourth consecutive game in a 2-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes at CenturyLink Field, becoming just the third rookie in MLS history to score in four straight games.
The only other players in league history to reach that mark were Jamaican international Damani Ralph with the Chicago Fire in 2003 and New York City FC forward Patrick Mullins in 2014 while with the New England Revolution.
No rookie in league history has scored a goal in five consecutive games. Orlando City forward Cyle Larin holds the record for goals in a single season by a rookie with 17, reached in 2015.
Morris has also now moved into a tie with Steve Zakuani for most goals scored by a rookie in Sounders franchise history. Zakuani scored four goals during the team’s inaugural MLS season in 2009.
Morris also joined Fredy Montero and Obafemi Martins as just the third player in franchise history to score a goal in at least four consecutive games. Montero scored in four straight games in August 2012 and also scored in five consecutive games in June-July 2009, while Martins scored in five consecutive games last August-September.
