U.S. Men's National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has made his final roster decisions for June's Copa America Centenario and Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey has made the final cut.
After being named to the provisional 40-man roster earlier in May, Dempsey hasn't been shy expressing his desire to play in this summer's historic tournament, which is being held in the United States for the first time.
“It’s an opportunity to do well in a major competition on home soil,” Dempsey told reporters earlier this week. An opportunity to get back on track after not winning Gold Cup or the Confederation Cup playoff game. So that’s what we’ll be looking to try to do.”
Dempsey was instrumental in the USMNT's success over Guatemala during the last round of World Cup qualifiers, picking up a historic goal in the cathartic 4-0 win at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
Dempsey's teammates Brad Evans and Jordan Morris were both named to the provisional roster and will be available for selection by Klinsmann in the event of an injury to a rostered player during the tournament.
