Zach Scott, Herculez Gomez to stay on with Seattle Sounders after signing extended contracts

TUKWILA, Wash. - Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid revealed Thursday that defender Zach Scott and forward Herculez Gomez will stay on with the club after signing extended contracts through the end of the 2016 season.

Scott, 36, and Gomez, 34, each signed short-term contracts earlier this year that were set to expire before the end of the regular season. Gomez initially signed a three-month deal when he arrived from Toronto in March, and Scott signed on in February as defensive depth while center back Roman Torres continues to recover from a torn ACL last year.

Gomez has appeared in 10 games this year (five starts), while Scott has once again proven to be a reliable option on the back line, appearing in eight games (seven starts) in his 15th professional season.

Schmid also said Thursday that the center back pairing of Brad Evans (calf) and Chad Marshall (migraine headache) will likely return on Saturday against the LA Galaxy after missing time against Toronto FC last weekend.
