Jurgen Klinsmann lauds Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris at U.S. camp

United States men’s national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann addressed the media on Wednesday in Miami, where the team is training before flying to Havana for its Oct. 7 friendly against the Cuba.

Klinsmann called in Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris for the match against Cuba. Morris was also called in last month for the USMNT’s World Cup qualifying matches against St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago, and Klinsmann only had good things to say about the young attacker.

“Jordan is one of our very, very promising strikers,” he said. “It’s his first year in MLS and I think he’s impressed a lot.”

Morris has a team-leading 12 goals this season for the Sounders and will likely be the front-runner for MLS Rookie of the Year. He leads the league in game-winning goals as well as all United States-born players in MLS scoring.

The 21-year-old has one career international goal, which came in a friendly against Mexico in 2015.

“We want him to mature, we want him to complete his game,” Klinsmann said. “There are still many areas where he can get better, but that’s encouraging because there is still so much upside in him and we can be part of that development, alongside the Sounders.

“Hopefully he keeps growing and getting better and better.”
