Seattle Sounders midfielder Aaron Kovar training with Scottish club Hibs

Fresh off winning the 2016 MLS Cup, Seattle Sounders midfielder Aaron Kovar is currently training with Scottish side Hibernian FC.

Kovar left for Scotland almost immediately after the team returned to Seattle following its title win, and he was not at the championship march and rally on Tuesday.

“Aaron is a winger who can play both sides,” Hibs boss Neil Lennon said in The Edinburgh Evening News. “He wants to go home for Christmas, but he’ll be with us until then so that will give us a chance to have a good look at him.”

Kovar, 23, is a Homegrown Player who played in 16 games in 2016 before suffering a fractured clavicle in July during a U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal match against the LA Galaxy. He missed 13 of the team’s final 14 matches of the regular season and did not appear in the postseason.

Training overseas is not something new for Kovar, who trained with English Championship club Preston North End following the end of the 2015 season and with Sheffield Wednesday after his rookie season in 2014.

“Aaron is a talented young player, and these types of experiences are always positive for development and fitness purposes,” Sounders General Manager and President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey said in January during Kovar’s stint in England.

Hibs are currently tied for first place in the Ladbrokes Championship, the second tier in Scottish football.
