LA Galaxy starting goalkeeper Clement Diop (hip) questionable for Sunday’s match against the Seattle Sounders

LA Galaxy starting goalkeeper Clement Diop’s status for Sunday’s match against the Seattle Sounders (1 p.m. PT; ESPN, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360AM) is questionable, according to LAGalaxy.com.

Diop, 23, injured his hip in last week’s 2-1 loss to Orlando City SC after a collision with Giles Barnes in the second half. Diop remained in the match.

“He’s struggling. He was a warrior, and he fought through the injury. It swelled up on him pretty bad. It was his hip. He was barely able to board the plane,” Galaxy head coach Curt Onalfo told reporters on Monday. “It was touch and go whether he’d be able to fly home. He was able to board the flight, but he’s struggling. We have to look at him day to day and see how he progresses. He’s in a tough spot right now physically.”

Diop had been filling in for Galaxy regular Brian Rowe, who himself has been recovering from a shoulder injury. The third goalkeeper on LA’s roster is 24-year-old Jon Kempin, who signed with the Galaxy this past offseason after spending six years with Sporting Kansas City.
