Chris Wondolowski scored a goal in the first half but Nicolas Lodeiro found an equalizer in the second, allowing the Seattle Sounders to escape Avaya Stadium with a 1-1 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.
Wondolowski’s 20th-minute tally was the 10th career goal against Seattle for the longtime Sounders nemesis and Seattle seemed destined for a defeat that could have proved devastating for their Western Conference playoff chances. But Lodeiro came to the rescue with a bending free-kick equalizer in the 80th minute to salvage the point.
SEATTLE - Rookie forward Jordan Morris scored a game-winning goal in the 81st minute, propelling the Seattle Sounders to a massive 1-0 Cascadia Cup victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps at CenturyLink Field on Saturday.
The victory moved the Sounders moved to 10-13-4 and 35 points on the season, vaulting them over Vancouver in the Western Conference standings and moving them within three points of the Portland Timbers for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference heading into the rest of Saturday’s action around MLS.
The goal was the 10th of the season for Morris, who became just the fifth rookie in MLS history to reach double-digit goals. He also has five game-winning goals this year, setting a new MLS rookie record.
