Clint Dempsey scored his first hat trick in more than two years Sunday to lead the Seattle Sounders to a 3-1 road triumph over Orlando City FC at Camping World Stadium.
The Sounders fell behind early off a tally from Orlando’s Seb Hines that put the hosts up 1-0. But Dempsey would find the net three times after that, the last one a 48th-minute tally that would cap off the result.
The win was the first under interim head coach Brian Schmetzer and the first in four games overall for the Sounders, and it also snapped Orlando’s 17-game unbeaten streak at home dating back to last season.
SEATTLE – Nicolás Lodeiro scored his first career MLS goal and Jordan Morris added another as the Seattle Sounders held on for a nail-biting 2-1 victory over visiting Real Salt Lake at CenturyLink Field on Sunday.
Lodeiro opened his MLS account with a 24th-minute strike off a feed from Andreas Ivanschitz before assisting Morris on his eighth goal of the season in the 37th, continuing his strong run of form since joining the Sounders as a Designated Player last month.
Clint Dempsey tallied a second-half brace, Cristian Roldan added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute and the Seattle Sounders cruised to a 3-1 Cascadia Cup triumph over the Portland Timbers at CenturyLink Field on Sunday evening.
Dempsey opened the scoring with a 61st-minute penalty kick and tacked on another in the 80th, bringing his goal tally up to eight on the 2016 season, before Roldan headed home the dagger off aNicolas Lodeiro corner kick.
Fandendo Adi pulled one back for Portland in second-half stoppage time, sealing the 3-1 scoreline that would hold as the final, moving Seattle (9-12-3, 30 pts.) within two points of the Timbers for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The Seattle Sounders salvaged a 1-1 draw in their road matchup with the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium on Wednesday night, rescuing the point courtesy of a dramatic equalizer from midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro in the last minute of stoppage time.
Andrew Wenger gave Houston the lead with a 75th-minute tally for the hosts and the contest appeared to be headed towards what would have been a disappointing road defeat for the Rave Green. But Lodeiro came to the rescue just before the final whistle, slotting home a feed from Joevin Jones to allow the Sounders to escape with the draw.
