minutes. All three starts came during five-week
stretch beginning vs. CHV (6/6). Played full 90
minutes in five U.S. Open Cup games, scoring
three goals, two game-winners, and an assist.
Extra time game-winner vs. HOU (7/21) propelled
team to final.
2008: Drafted in the third round (40th overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by Chicago Fire. Played in 20 games, starting eight, and scored two goals and one assist. Made MLS debut at Real Salt Lake (3/29) for 36 minutes of play in 1-1 tie. Made first MLS start playing 90 minutes at San Jose (4/12) in 1-0 win. Scored first MLS career goal in 76th minute at New England (5/3) in 3-0 win. Scored game-winning goal vs. New York (9/6). Added first-career assist vs. New York (10/23). Played 120 minutes and scored a goal vs. Columbus (6/10) in 3-2 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play-in win. Played 90 minutes and had one assist in 4-1 win vs. Cleveland City Stars (7/1). Played 90 minutes in 2-1 loss to D.C. United (7/8) in overtime of U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal. Started nine games and logged 707 minutes with one assist in MLS Reserve Division.
College
Started all 93 matches played at Maryland over four-year career. Ranked in the school’s all-time top five in games started (93, 1st), assists (33, 2nd), assists in one match (3, 1st), and assists in a season (13, 2nd). Was 2007 semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy for the second-straight year, College Soccer News All-American first team and All-ACC first team. Scored 15 goals in 2005, which ranks 10th all-time for a single season in Maryland history. Scored four goals in a match vs. Cal State Fullerton on September 2, 2005, tying him for seventh in Terrapin history. Started every match as a freshman.

Played for club team FC Delco. Attended Shawnee High School in Medford, NJ. New Jersey Gatorade and NSCAA Player of the Year. Parade and NSCAA/adidas All-American. EA Student Sports All-American. Helped team to a 99-5-3 record during his four-year career, including the 2003 state title.
Son of Douglas and Jayne King. Majored in finance at Maryland. Played with the U- 16 and U-23 U.S. National Teams. Captain of the U-15 National Team. Has two brothers, Brian and Sean. Stephen and his two brothers were taught to play soccer by their father, an All-American player at the University of Pennsylvania.
