2012: Made 22 MLS appearances and 20 starts. Major contributor to defense that allowed just 0.97 goals per game (second in MLS). Recorded the game-winning assist in a 2-1 win at CHI (4/28). Appeared in 37 of 49 matches across all competitions.

2011: Started all 23 games in which he appeared in and went full 90 minutes in all but one. Recorded only point of season by assisting on goal vs. TOR (4/30). Ejected twice this season, once for receiving two yellow cards at TOR (6/18) and once for being issued a red card ejection vs. RSL (9/10). Made 30 appearances across all competitions, starting all of them.

2010: Placed on the club's Disabled List (5/24) after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee in stoppage time vs. San Jose (5/22). Started and played full 90 minutes in all 9 appearances.

2009: Finalist for MLS Defender of the Year and chosen to MLS All-Stars. Started and played the full 90 minutes in 28 of 29 appearances, including both playoff legs vs. HOU (10/29, 11/8), with one goal and one assist. Effective coming forward on set plays around the box. Celebrated 25th birthday with first career MLS goal in 1-1 draw at DAL (5/16). Had game-winning assist in 2-1 win vs. HOU (7/11). Both goals originated from corner kicks. Has appeared in 121 matches at the first and second division levels in Colombia. Had a trial at AC Milan and appeared in friendly with German club Hannover before signing with Seattle.

Married to wife Daysury and has two children, Paolo and Jean Pierre. Received U.S. Green Card in December 2010. Has learned English in his three years in Seattle. Named after U.S. President John F. Kennedy, and goes by the nickname "El Presidente."
