MLS Experience
2012: Started in 15 of 16 appearances in 2012. Scored the MLS Goal of the Year in a 1-1 draw vs. KC (6/20) when his side-wind- ing volley met a corner kick for an equalizing goal. One of three Sounders FC players to play every minute of first five matches. Started MLS opener for first time in career vs. TOR (3/17). Appeared in 21 games with 20 starts across all competitions.
2011: Made 16 appearances and 12 starts. Scored lone goal of season in 2-1 win at RSL (5/28). Team was 9-3-4 in games that Ianni appeared in.
2010: Became a regular starter in central defense, starting 24 of 25 appearances. Logged career-high in games played, minutes (2096), shots (15), fouls called (22) and fouls suffered (11). First started in midfield at NY (5/15) and first started in defense vs. DAL (7/11). Saw first action of season vs. KC (4/17). Made 32 appearances in all competitions.
2009: Started 11 of 18 appearances, including his first career playoff appearance. Started and went the full 90 minutes vs. HOU (10/29). Played primarily as a central defender. Occasionally used at outside back or in defensive midfield. Scored first goal with Seattle, second of career, the game-winner vs. former team HOU on a bicycle kick (7/11) which was voted MLS Goal of the Week and a finalist for Goal of the Year. Played the full 90 minutes in all five U.S. Open Cup appearances.
2008: Appeared in 17 games, including 10 starts, at center back for the Dynamo. Appeared in four consecutive games from April 19 to May 10 and entered as a sub at San Jose (5/22). Stepped into lineup vs. NY (5/31) and helped Dynamo record first shutout in five games. Started three consecutive games (5/31, 6/8, 6/12) and recorded first-career assist vs. Toronto (6/8). Missed Champions' Cup quarterfinal series due to Olympic qualifying but started and went 90 minutes in both legs against Saprissa (4/2 & 4/9). SuperLiga: Started in one of the Dynamo's best performances of the year, the 4-0 home win vs. Atlante (7/12). Came on as a substitute at D.C. but missed the semifinal and final while with the Olympic team. Champions League: Started four of the five group matches, including a shutout at Panama’s San Francisco F.C. (9/23). Reserves: Started seven games for the MLS Reserve Division champions.
2007: Contributed as a starter with the first team for the first time, starting nine games and appearing in 16 games overall. Made first MLS appearance of the year as a sub vs. Colorado (6/7). Made first career start at Kansas City (6/24) and scored the game-winning goal, the first of his career, with a header in the 81st minute. Made eight more starts at center back and went the full 90 minutes each time. Did not see action in the playoffs. SuperLiga: Started and played 90 minutes in 1-0 win vs. Club América (7/25). Entered as a substitute in 1-1 draw vs. Monarcas Morelia (7/29).
2006: Played sparingly in two games, vs. RSL (6/17) and at L.A. (6/24). Reserves: Started all 10 games in which he appeared, playing 900 minutes. Had two assists and earned three yellow cards.
Played on U-14, U-16, U-18, U-20 and U-23 U.S. National Teams. Named to the U.S. squad for the 2008 Summer Olympics, but did not see any game action in Beijing. Helped the U-23 National Team qualify for the Olympics by playing the full game in three of the five qualifying matches in March. Starter on U.S. U-20 National Team, coached by Sigi Schmid, at the World Youth Championships. Key member of defensive unit that shut out all three opponents in group play. Scored first international goal in a 2-0 friendly win over China.
College
MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist in 2005. NSCAA/ adidas second-team All-American and All-Far West and also named to the All-America teams for Soccer Times (second team) and College Soccer News (third team). Earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors. Key member of UCLA’s defensive unit that led the nation in shutout percentage (0.70). In 2004, was the Pac-10 Co-Player of the Year and first team All-Pac-10. Starter in 18 of 20 games played. Played in 19 games with six starts in 2003.
Personal:
Married to Christine. Son of Richard and Colleen. Brother Tayt was a member of UCLA's 1990 NCAA championship team, coached by Sigi Schmid. Tayt also played professionally with the San Jose Clash in MLS from 1996-97. Has one sister, Erin. Born and raised in Lodi, Calif., where parents own a waste service company.
