Match Recap

CARSON, CALIF. – Sounders FC concluded its nine-day camp in Southern California on Friday with the second friendly of the 2015 preseason, falling to the LA Galaxy 2-1 at the StubHub Center. Marco Pappa netted the lone goal for Seattle, while Baggio Husidic and Nacho Maganto scored for the Galaxy. Friday marked the first preseason action against an MLS opponent for both teams.

The Galaxy opened up the scoring in the 18th minute when Husidic slotted a pass from Stefan Ishizaki into the net. Seattle equalized nine minutes later when Marco Pappa collected a cross and fired a low shot that curved inside the far post. Magnato, a rookie from UC Davis, scored the winner in the 54th for the defending MLS Cup Champions.

Both teams used separate 11-man lineups in each half. Sounders FC came with a different look in the attack from Wednesday’s match against UCLA, starting Chad Barrett up top with Obafemi Martins. Lamar Neagle, who started alongside Martins on Wednesday, played on the wing in the first half on Friday, while Homegrown Player Darwin Jones, who started on the wing against UCLA, was placed at forward for the second half alongside Kenny Cooper.

Friday’s match was a matchup between two of the league’s top contenders, as Seattle and LA finished first and second, respectively, in the race for the 2014 Supporters’ Shield and faced off in the 2014 Western Conference Championship.

Sounders FC now heads back to Seattle for a week of training at Starfire Sports before traveling to Tucson on February 15 for the 2015 Desert Diamond Cup. The club opens up the 2015 MLS regular season on Sunday, March 8 against the New England Revolution at CenturyLink Field.
