2 Sounders Win Awards & More

Two Sounders FC forwards were awarded for their efforts on the field in the month of July this week.

First, Nate Jaqua was named Player Of The Round for his 2-goal performance in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup quarterfinals.  Jaqua scored on two headers in Seattle's 2-0 win over the LA Galaxy at Starfire on July 7.

"If you make good runs and get to the right spots and we get good service, we’re going to score a lot of goals," Jaqua said.  For the full interview with Jaqua, check out TheCup.US.  The Sounders host Chivas USA in the Open Cup semifinal September 1 at Starfire.

Second, Fredy Montero was named MLS Player Of The Month for July.  He scored two goals and three assists in five July matches, extending his streak to eight straight MLS matches where he has registered a goal or an assist.  He also scored in Seattle's 1-0 win over Isidro Metapan in the first leg of their aggregate goal preliminary round metting in the CONCACAF Champions League.  For more on Montero's award, read SoundersFC.com.

Additionally, Steve Kelley of the Seattle Times flew down to El Salvador (on his own dime, no less) and covered the second leg of the Champions League preliminary round.  Read his report at SeattleTimes.com.

And finally, there has been some recent talk of MLS expansion, but not in one of the cities you may be thinking of.  Read Josh Hakala's story on renovations being considered to the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit at MLive.com.
