Seattle Sounders FC fell, 3-0, to the LA Galaxy Monday evening on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field. Seattle (12-5-2, 38 points) maintains its six-point lead in the Western Conference, while Los Angeles (8-4-6, 30 points) moves into a three-way tie for third place. Landon Donovan paced the Galaxy with one goal and two assists.
With the loss, Seattle's league-best streak of six consecutive home wins came to an end, while the Galaxy have lost just once in its last 10 matches (6-1-3).
LA took the 1-0 lead in the 8th minute when Donovan received a pass in the middle of the box from Marcelo Sarvas, then turned and played the ball behind to Gyasi Zardes, who slotted it the right side of the net.
The Galaxy extended the lead to 2-0 in the 18th minute when Donovan knocked in a rebound attempt after Stefan Frei saved a long-distance shot from Sarvas. It was Donovan's fourth goal of the season.
LA made it 3-0 in the 36th minute when Sarvas found a streaking Stefan Ishizaki on the right side, who then fired a first-time strike inside the far post.
Frei made a season-high seven saves in the match, including back-to-back stops on shots by Zardes in the 43rd minute.
Sounders FC returns to action on Saturday, August 5th against the San Jose Earthquakes. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. PT at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
