Yedlin plays 85 minutes as USMNT falls to Colombia 2-1 in friendly

Sounders FC defender DeAndre Yedlin earned his 10th cap for the U.S. Men’s National Team on Friday, playing 85 minutes in a 2-1 friendly loss to Colombia in London, England.


Jurgen Klinsmann started Yedlin at right back before moving the 21-year-old up to right midfield for the second half of the match at Craven Cottage, the home stadium of Fullham FC of the English Premier League. The U.S. opened the scoring in the 10th minute on a penalty kick by forward Jozy Altidore, who moved into 5th all-time on the USMNT scoring list with his 25th international goal.


Colombia, which reached the quarterfinals of last summer’s World Cup, equalized in the 60th minute on a goal by Carlos Bacca. Teófilo Gutiérrez scored the winner for Los Cafeteros in the 87th minute with a header that got by keeper Brad Guzan.


In preparation for Friday’s match, Yedlin and the U.S. trained at the facilities of Tottenham Hotspur, the English Premier League club Yedlin has agreed to transfer to next season. He roomed with his good friend Julian Green while in London.

Ireland will be the next opponent for the U.S., as the two countries are scheduled to play Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. on ESPN2.


Sounders FC faces the LA Galaxy in the first leg of the Western Conference Finals on Nov. 23.
