Sounders FC teams up with Street Soccer Seattle for clinic and pick-up game

Before long, Occidental Park will be filling with supporters clad in green and familiar chants will fill Pioneer Square ahead of Sunday night’s match against the New England Revolution.

Prior to Sunday’s festivities, a different kind of passion for the game will be on display near the Sounders home pitch.

Together with Street Soccer Seattle, Sounders FC will be hosting a Pop-Up Clinic and Pick-Up Game on Wednesday, March 4 from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. PT in Occidental Park, near the club’s offices.

More Information

“The pop-up clinic is an opportunity for our organizations to work together to demonstrate the power of soccer as a vehicle to improve lives of homeless individuals,” said Roger Levesque, Director of Community Initiatives for Sounders FC.

“Both organizations have the same vision of helping the community through the sport of soccer,” said Earl Lara, President of Street Soccer Seattle. “We believe this partnership with the Sounders will better enable us to be more successful facilitating social change through soccer.”

The event will open up with information about the programs that Street Soccer Seattle operates, as well as a training session with their coaches and Sounders FC Academy coaches. Following the clinic, there will be 4v4 games where all are welcome to participate.

“We’ll have both former and current Sounders FC players on hand to join the festivities and meet with participants,” said Levesque. “We want to display the work that Street Soccer does in translating soccer skills to success both on the field and in life.”

The event is the beginning of a partnership between the Sounders and Street Soccer Seattle that will continue through the 2015 season, as Levesque directs the organization’s community programming this year.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to reconnect with Street Soccer Seattle,” said Levesque. “As a Sounders FC player I practiced with the Street Soccer team and experienced first-hand the power of soccer to positively impact lives. In addition to the many lessons we can learn just from the game, soccer can also be a vehicle to do more. Street Soccer Seattle does this as well as anyone.”

Supporters are invited to participate in Wednesday’s event in Occidental Park.
