48 Seconds With Levesque: Sounders FC gives back during Impact Seattle Week

Don’t Forget to Carry The 2

  • 1 = the number of goals scored by Sounders FC in Sunday’s rivalry match vs. Portland. Find out how many goals the Timbers scored here. I couldn’t resist.
  • 16,000 = students on hand at We Day Seattle to celebrate the actions that they are taking to have a positive impact in their local and global communities. Clint Dempsey, Obafemi Martins and Ross Fletcher were there to inspire, let’s go behind the scenes!
  • 83,410 = dollars raised to support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Washington and Alaska through this year’s Men in Kilts campaign. Is that Brad Evans doing a handstand...in a kilt?

Champione Champione Ole Ole Ole

In Seattle, there are champions all around us – passionate people working tirelessly to make our community a better place. GiveBIG, the Seattle Foundation’s one-day, online charitable giving event is our chance to support those champions and their organizations. Lamar Neagle is a product of these champions, now he’s planning to give back. Over 1,600 local nonprofits will benefit from GiveBIG on May 5, choose which one you’ll support here.

Go (Rave) Green

In Seattle, we do Earth Day better than most. But if we’re going to reach the goal set by our city to become carbon-neutral by 2050, we could all probably do a little more. Here’s how. Some of us have already started – by breaking up. You too can support Seattle Goodwill’s Earth Day campaign, Breakup4good, by bidding here. Or donate your gently worn goods to a local Goodwill shop. Did you know that part of the proceeds from Goodwill’s marketplace goes to support free job training and education programs?

Shaping the Minds of America’s Youth

I playfully tell people that coaching soccer affords me the opportunity to “shape the minds of America’s youth.” This generally elicits an eye-roll and an, “Oh dear” from all present parties. But truly the game in itself is a great teacher. Sounders FC Summer Camps provides opportunities for kids to learn. So does Gunman Taco Truck. Want to keep up with your kids? Maybe this is the answer.

A Moment

I’d like to take a moment to recognize those who lost their lives in last week’s devastating earthquake in Nepal. As the dust settles and communities are rebuilt, our support is needed more than ever. Here’s one way to help.

Say Cheese!

Impact (Seattle) has been on my mind recently. Last week 41 Sounders FC employees (staff and players) volunteered to make our community a more healthy and vital place to live. Even if just a little, I think we moved the needle. It’s a good reminder that small changes can have a big impact. What’s your recipe to make a difference?
