Roger Levesque

This Day in Sounders History: Roger Levesque retires with a smile

On this day four years ago, the Seattle Sounders' own swashbuckling, goal scoring, Timbers toppling, scuba diving, legend of Rave Green lore retired from the game of soccer.

On July 18, 2012 in a friendly against Chelsea FC, Roger Levesque was subbed on in the 65th minute for his final appearance as a Sounder. Known for his goals in crucial moments and his goal celebrations, Levesque was constant source of entertainment for Sounders fans, and a shining example of how a player should carry himself off the field. Always smiling and socializing with the fans, Levesque quickly endeared himself as a fan favorite and will forever live in Sounders legacy.

As he left the field that day, Levesque received a standing ovation from the 55,309 in attendance.

"If you know Roger you know why he gets a standing ovation.  He's an endearing individual, he has a smile on his face … he just enjoys life," head coach Sigi Schmid said after the match.  "That's the kind of guy, that's just an infectious personality and he endears himself to people because of who he is."

Levesque scored 43 goals across all competitions during his 10 seasons with the Sounders dating back to the USL days.

Levesque continues to contribute to the organization and the city he loves in a positive way as the Director of Community Outreach for the Sounders.
