The now-famous Ville Magazine cover of former Seattle Sounders players Nelson Valdez, Tyrone Mears and Zach Scott has won the ASME’s Readers’ Choice for Best Health and Fitness Cover of 2016.
The May/June 2016 healthy and fitness issue entitled “Men of the Match” featured the three players posing nude with nothing but soccer balls covering themselves. The cover was designed by Charity Mainville and shot by Ernie Sapiro.
All three players departed the Sounders during the offseason. Valdez signed with Cerro Porteño in his native Paraguay, Mears signed with 2017 MLS expansion side Atlanta United and Scott retired after a 15-year career in Seattle.
