Sounders FC 2 winger Irvin Parra has been named to the USL Team of the Week bench for Week 7 after scoring both goals in S2’s 2-0 win over Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers 2 at the weekend. With the win over T2 last Friday, the Rave Green moved up to fifth place in the USL Western Conference with a record of 4-4-0.
Parra, 23, joined S2 midway through the 2016 USL campaign from German-side Kaiserslautern II and made an immediate impact with the club. He’s lined up in a variety of attacking positions in his time with S2, including as a primary striker and an inverted winger.
Parra opened the scoring in the win over Portland with a successful penalty kick, marking the second consecutive match in which the Inglewood, CA, native scored from the spot. He completed his brace when his defensive pressure resulted in a powerful clearance which sailed over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. With the goals, he drew level with forward Felix Chenkam as S2’s leading scorer with three tallies.
S2 hits the road this weekend for a road rematch with Western Conference leaders San Antonio FC on Saturday at Toyota Field. Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. PT.
