SEATTLE, WASH. – U.S. Soccer today announced via a live draw that Seattle Sounders FC is set to face the San Jose Earthquakes in the Fifth Round of the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, June 28 at Avaya Stadium at 7:30 p.m. PT. Seattle secured advancement to the Fifth Round via a 2-1 win over the Portland Timbers on Tuesday evening, with Aaron Kovar and Zach Mathers scoring goals at Starfire Stadium. San Jose defeated the San Francisco Deltas 2-0 on Wednesday night at Avaya Stadium.

If Brian Schmetzer’s side advances past San Jose, Seattle moves on to the Quarterfinal Round and would host the winner of the LA Galaxy and Sacramento Republic FC, who meet in the Fifth Round in Southern California. After this morning’s live draw, the bracket for the remainder of the 2017 U.S. Open Cup is now set.

Sounders FC is now 23-3-4 all-time since joining MLS in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play, including a 19-1-1 record at home. Winner of the U.S. Open Cup in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2014, Sounders FC is tied with the Chicago Fire for the most titles in the tournament among MLS clubs. Maccabi Los Angeles and Bethlehem Steel FC hold the record with five wins apiece. In 2011, Sounders FC became the first team since 1968 to win three consecutive Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championships.

Sounders FC returns to MLS play this Saturday with a national televised matchup against New York City FC at Yankee Stadium (10:00 a.m. PT / ESPN, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
