Sounders FC draws LA Galaxy 1-1 at CenturyLink Field

Sounders draw Galaxy 1-1 91017

SEATTLE, WASH. - Lamar Neagle scored a second-half equalizer as Sounders FC (11-7-10, 43 points) played to a 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy (7-14-6, 27 points) Sunday evening in front of 44,697 fans on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field. The draw extends Seattle's current club-record unbeaten run to 12 games (6-0-6), as the Rave Green hit the road next weekend to face FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium (5:00 p.m. PT / JOEtv, Univision-Seattle, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360 AM).

The Galaxy struck first in the 25th minute with Gyasi Zardes' second goal of the season. Jonathan dos Santos sent a ball wide to Romain Alessandrini, who sent a cross into the area that found Zardes for a header past Stefan Frei, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Neagle found the equalizer in the 85th minute for his first goal for Seattle since re-joining the club last month. Román Torres chased down a ball on the right flank and sent a desperate cross just before crossing the touch line. The ball sailed to Neagle for a one-touch blast that deflected off a Galaxy defender and into the back of the net. The goal was the second of the season for Neagle, and first since re-joining Sounders FC on August 7. The Federal Way native now has 27 career goals for the Rave Green, good for fourth in club history. It was the second assist of the season for Torres.

Jordan Morris nearly gave Seattle the lead with his fifth goal of the season in the 21st minute when he collected a through-ball behind the defense and chipped the goalkeeper into the back of the net, but the assistant referee's flag was raised for offside. Morris exited the match in the 61st minute after suffering a hamstring strain and was replaced by Will Bruin.

Sounders FC held on for a point despite playing the final moments of the match with 10 men, after Torres was issued a red card in the 89th minute for a foul on Jermaine Jones.

LA Head Coach Sigi Schmid managed his first match in Seattle since parting ways with Sounders FC last July. Schmid coached Sounders FC from the club's inception in 2009, accumulating a 115-79-56 record and leading the club to seven postseason appearances, four Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup titles (2009-2011, 2014) and the 2014 Supporters' Shield.

The Rave Green hit the road next weekend with the first of two late-season matchups against Western Conference rival FC Dallas. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. PT at Toyota Stadium, featuring local television coverage on JOEtv and Univision-Seattle and radio broadcasts on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM and El Rey 1360 AM.
