Seattle Sounders midfielder Víctor Rodríguez opened his MLS goal and assist accounts on Sept. 27 against the Vancouver Whitecaps in front of the CenturyLink Field faithful. In this edition of Quest Diagnostics Advanced Stats, we take a closer look at Rodríguez’s performance.
The 28-year-old attacked with purpose all game, constantly keeping Whitecaps defenders off balance. He gave Seattle the lead in the first half before directing a textbook counterattack to bury Vancouver after the break. He was fouled a game-high four times while completing 79 percent of his passes and winning 78 percent of his duels.
Rodríguez did not play against the Philadelphia Union last Sunday because he traveled home to Barcelona to be with his wife ahead of the birth of their first child. Rodríguez’s daughter, Astrid, was born Tuesday morning, and Head Coach Brian Schmetzer expects him to be available for Seattle’s next match against FC Dallas on Oct. 15.
