Clint Dempsey, Cristian Roldan named to MLS Team of the Week for Week 24

MLS named Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey and midfielder Cristain Roldan to its Week 24 Team of the Week on Monday. Defender Brad Evans was also named to the bench as an honorable mention.

Dempsey and Roldan played integral roles in the Sounders' 3-1 win over the Portland Timbers on Sunday evening, leading Seattle to its third consecutive victory. Dempsey paced the Sounders with a brace, pushing his career goals total to eight vs. Portland. He scored in the 61st minute on a penalty kick drawn by Roldan and again in the 80th on a feed from Roldan.

Roldan iced the win in the 83rd minute with a goal of his own off a corner kick after an Evans flick-on. Roldan now has two goals, two assists and has drawn two penalties in the last four matches since interim head coach Brian Schmetzer took over.

This selection is Dempsey's second in three weeks after recording a hat trick against Orlando in Week 22.

The Sounders return to action on the road at the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday at 6 p.m. PT (JOEtv, ROOT Sports, El Rey 1360AM, 770 KTTH).
