2020 Sounders FC Soccer Analytics Conference

Given the current need for social distancing and the innate human desire for connection, the 2020 Sounders FC Soccer Analytics Conference is moving to an online format.

Taking place on three consecutive Wednesdays in May, our goal is to discuss how to integrate analytics into a decision-making workflow at a soccer club. We’ll answer questions like: What are the limitations of analytics today and how do we best bridge the gap?

The conference will feature a wide variety of guest speakers and panelists who have experience working with clubs and/or national teams as well as a select few from other sports and industries

We’re also hosting a sports analytics competition for students interest in becoming a data analyst or for those of you who are simply non-professional data-enthusiasts. Get more details below.

When:

  • Wednesday, May 6 - 10 a.m.  – 2 p.m. PT
  • Wednesday, May 13 - 10 a.m.  – 2 p.m. PT
  • Wednesday, May 20 - 10 a.m.  – 2 p.m. PT

Format:

The meeting will be taking place through Zoom as a webinar. Each day will consist of a keynote speaker followed by presentations from practitioners and a roundtable of experts. In the later sessions, you'll hear from winning parties in the analytics competition.

Data Analytics Competition:

Sounders FC is challenging you to use data visualization to tell a story and deliver insights that help decision-making process of key stakeholders at club.

 

EXAMPLES

A visualization to help player recruitment of a specific player or position.


RULES & ELIGIBILITY

1. Amateurs only: All current full-time students are eligible to apply, as are all analytics enthusiasts that aren’t working professionally at sports teams/organization.
2. 
Team submissions are allowed. Max size of a team is 2 people.
3. 
Submissions will need to be a link to a 5-slide presentation or a link to a self-hosted web page.

Registration:

Register below for the 2020 Sounders FC Soccer Analytics Conference. The normal price of our annual Seminar in Seattle is $500 but in light of the current pandemic we’d like this event to be as accessible as possible while still supporting the local community. We have reduced the price to $50.

All proceeds will be donated to the Sounders FC COVID-19 Relief Fund, which will support individuals, non-profits and small businesses in the neighborhoods surrounding CenturyLink Field.
