MATCH RECAP: Tacoma Defiance Draws 1-1 With Timbers2 Saturday Night at Providence Park, Wins Ensuing Shootout

PORTLAND, ORE. – Tacoma Defiance (9-4-7, 38 points) drew 1-1 with Timbers2 (8-11-1, 25 points) Saturday evening at Providence Park. Defiance won the ensuing shootout to leave Portland with two points and increase its lead atop the Pacific Division.

Abdoulaye Cissoko opened the scoring for Tacoma with a penalty strike. After Paul Rothrock was fouled by Timbers2 goalkeeper Hunter Sulte, Cissoko stepped up to the spot and buried the following attempt in the 10th minute. T2 answered quickly, with Florián Monzón scoring the equalizer in the 13th minute. Following 90 minutes of play, Timbers2 missed its second and third attempts in the ensuing shootout, while Tacoma made all of its four to send Defiance home with two points.

Following today’s contest, Wade Webber’s side hosts Sporting Kansas City II on Wednesday, August 9 at Starfire Stadium (7:00 p.m. PT / MLSNEXTPro.com).
